Waitlist Information
Our capacity vastly outstrips our demand for spaces in our program. We wish we could offer a space to every child that needs one. We are able to accommodate 43 students at any given time, and have to consider proper ratios for age groups.
REGISTRATION PRIORITY
- Students of current Kindercare staff
- Siblings of currently enrolled Kindercare students
- Kindergarden lottery or general waitlist (please see below for how to add your child to the kindergarden lottery)
HOW THE WAITLIST WORKS
If your child is entering kindergarden, a lottery is drawn in the Spring of each year to determine your priority. See below for more details on the steps and process of this lottery.
Otherwise, if you would like to add your child’s name to the waitlist outside of the kindergarden lottery, please email kindercarewaitlist@gmail.com with the subject line WAITLIST, along with your child’s name to add your child to the waitlist. Please do not email more than once for this purpose.
We may not be able to tell you your exact number on the waitlist, because when a spot becomes available, it may need to be allocated to a K, Gr 1, Gr 2, or Gr 3 student based on ratios and licensing. As you can imagine, we receive a very high volume of emails. We apologize for this. Waitlist emails are monitored but not always responded to promptly. Rest assured that once you email us to add your child to the waitlist, they are on it, even if we do not respond.
We know how frustrating it can be to find before and after care for school-aged children in Vancouver. We make every effort to provide spaces to as many L'Ecole Bilingue students as possible in our program.
Kindercare kindergarden lottery: steps and timeframe
Step 1
Once parents are informed that their child has been admitted to kindergarden at L’Ecole Bilingue, and they accept a spot, parents must email kindercarewaitlist@gmail.com (or our previous waitlist email address) and return the completed form package they receive by 11:59pm on MARCH 29 to be added to the kindergarden lottery. Even siblings of current Kindercare students must do this.
Step 2
Typically, in the Spring of the current school year, the executive director determines how many spaces will be available for kindergarden students. Bear in mind that siblings of current enrolled students have priority, which may significantly impact available kindergarden spaces for non-sibling priority applicants.
Step 3
At the Kindercare board meeting, the executive director presents a list of students for the lottery. A random draw is then held by a board member to determine the order for kindergarden students that don’t have sibling priority.
Step 4
If a space for a kindergarden student is available, the executive director informs the parents via email. Families will then have 48 hours to confirm their acceptance of a space.
If we do not hear from you, or you do not get a space, you will be placed on the general waitlist. Please note that even if you do not hear from us promptly, that your child has still been added to the waitlist.
Step 5
Throughout the school year, other spots may become available to kindergarden or Gr 1-3 students. The executive director will notify parents if this is the case.
