Waitlist and kindergarden lottery

As you can imagine, our capacity vastly outstrips our demand for spaces in our program. We wish we could offer a space to every child that needs one. We are able to accommodate 43 students at any given time, and have to consider proper ratios for age groups.

The priority of admission to Kindercare is as follows:

  1. Students of current Kindercare staff
  2. Siblings of currently enrolled students
  3. Kindergarden children for the upcoming year are placed into a lottery (please see below for how to add your child to the kindergarden lottery)
  4. A general waitlist. Please email kindercare648@gmail.com with the subject line WAITLIST ENQUIRY to add your child to the waitlist outside of the kindergarden lottery (see below)

The general waitlist is typically determined based on the day that children are added to the waitlist. We may not be able to tell you your exact number on the waitlist, because when a spot becomes available, it may need to be allocated to a K, Gr 1, Gr 2, or Gr 3 student based on ratios and licensing.

Waitlist emails are monitored but not always responded to promptly — the administration of our entire program is handled by our executive director.

We know how frustrating it can be to find before and after care for school aged children in Vancouver. We make every effort to provide spaces to L'Ecole Bilingue students in our program.

Kindercare kindergarden lottery and general waitlist

STEP 1

Once parents are informed that their child has been admitted to kindergarden at L’Ecole Bilingue, and they accept, parents must email kindercare648@gmail.com by APRIL 1 of that year with their child’s name to be added to the kindergarden space lottery.

Step 2

In the Spring of the current school year, the executive director determines how many spaces will be available for kindergarden students, keeping in mind that siblings of current enrolled students have priority.

Step 3

At the Kindercare board meeting in the April, the executive director presents a list of students for the lottery. A random draw is then held to determine the order for kindergarden students that don’t have sibling priority.

Step 4

When a space for a kindergarden student is available, the executive director informs the parents. Otherwise, the children that did not win the lottery will be placed on the general waitlist. Please note that even if you do not hear from us promptly, that your child has still been added to the waitlist.

Step 5

Throughout the school year, other spots may become available to kindergarden or Gr 1-3 students. The executive director will notify parents if this is the case. If you are not offered a space, we recommend looking at JCC, Gracie Barra or other after-school classes and programs offered by L’Ecole Bilingue.
